New York, NY – Not going to SXSW this year? Don’t fret. A delegation of five festival-goers from New York City’s WFUV (90.7 FM, wfuv.org) and TheAlternateSide.org will head to Austin’s SXSW Music Conference throughout the week of March 15th to bring New Yorkers coverage of the Festival’s highlights and lowlights. Led by WFUV Music Director Rita Houston and The Alternate Side Host Alisa Ali, the FUV team will blog, tweet, post Flickr photos, exclusive YouTube video performances and, of course, bring live broadcasts, interviews and on-the-scene reports from all over the city to radio listening audiences worldwide. Guest bloggers like Citizen Cope and the Low Anthem will also contribute the artists’ perspective on the Festival at wfov.org/blog.
In addition to all the multimedia Festival coverage, WFUV is teaming up with NPR Music with bring listeners two nights of SXSW concerts. On Thursday, March 18th from 7:00-10:00 PM Rita and Alisa host a night of shows by Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Broken Bells and Spoon recorded live at Stubb’s. And on Friday, March 19th from 7:00 PM-midnight it’s a showcase of new artists including Smith Westerns, Brooklyn Rider, Local Natives, G-Side, Surfer Blood and Sleigh Bells from The Parish.
After all the media saturation from Austin, the delegates will return to New York, where Kara and Alisa will join Rita Houston to recap the Festival and replay some of their favorite performances and interviews on the Friday, March 26th edition of The Whole Wide World.
“Music-obsessed New Yorkers listen to WFUV and The Alternate Side to find out about the next big thing. Well, every year next-big-things are discovered at SXSW. Team FUV will be all over Austin-at hole-in-the-wall venues and label showcases-to bring New Yorkers thorough coverage of every artist we think they’d want to know about,” said Houston.
