Marva Wright, known as the Blues queen of New Orleans, died after suffering complications following a stroke. She was 62.
"At 6 a.m. this [Wednesday] morning, Marva suffered another stroke and passed away. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to her family, friends and loved ones. Information about services will be made available soon," contactmusic.com quoted a statement on Wright's website as saying.
Four children, 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild survive her.
Wright was hospitalized last June after suffering a serious stroke following a gig at the CoCo Club on Bourbon Street.
