Scarab Club Blues Heritage Series Returns! Presents Women of Detroit Blues April 17



Detroit Blues Society Presents the Ladies of Detroit Blues Alberta Adams & Sky Covington w/ all-star band Saturday, April 17 @ 2 pm at the Scarab Club 217 Farnsworth, Detroit, MI, 48202


At age 92, Detroit's undisputed queen of the blues will be featured at a special concert performance at the historical Scarab Club on April 17, from 2 until 5 pm. Opening the event will be Sky Covington, a young jazz & blues singer who is making quite a name for herself around town. Sky will focus on tunes by Billy Holiday & Nina Simone. Alberta is known around the world for her sides on the legendary Chess label, as well as her recordings on the Thelma (Gordy), Cannonball & Eastlawn labels. Last year at this time she received a standing ovation at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem, her first time there in 50 years!


The special back-up band will include Phil Hale on keys (Thornetta Davis Band), Paul Carey on guitar (Alberta Adams), Ibrahim Jones on upright bass (Sky Covington) & RJ Spangler on drums (Alberta Adams, RJ's Rhythm Rockers).


This is an all-ages show. No refreshments provided. Nominal cover charge.
