16th Bluesfest Interntational Promises to be a Veritable Blues Lovers? Mecca

16TH Bluesfest International Promises to be a Veritable Blues Lovers’ Mecca-Party at the Riverfront
It's a Mini-Getaway Without Leaving Home

Mark your calendar now for the premier event of the summer, July 16-18, 2010 at the Riverfront Festival Plaza on the banks of the mighty Detroit River, opposite Motown and Caesars Casino. As the 11th largest blues festival in North America, we’ve put together another stellar line-up that won’t disappoint. Gather your friends from near and far and enjoy 3 days of tantalizing blues acts.

The festival kicks off with FOGHAT, the Brits with affection for American blues. Four decades of touring and recording have earned them seven gold and one platinum album. “Foghat Live”, with their massive hit, “Slow Ride”, reached double platinum status. Headlining Saturday night is Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, one of the primary architects of the New Jersey sound. They have been thrilling audiences world-wide for 35 years; achieving prominence in the mid-1970s with their first three Stax–influenced R&B albums produced by Jukes co-founder, Stevie Van Zandt and featured songs by Springsteen. “Southside may well have one of the purest rhythm and blues voices this side of Otis Redding. One of the best bands in America, is something akin to the second coming of R & B”, Backstreets Magazine.

Saturday’s other headliner is Canadian iconic singer/songwriter Gord Downie and his new project The Country of Miracles. Downie has won countless Juno Awards and the new record ‘The Grand Bounce” hits the street June 8.

Sunday features Tab Benoit, one of the premier roots stylists of the century. With fifteen records, three Grammy nods and a budding movie career, Tab is Louisiana’s #1 music export!

Bluesfest is pleased to showcase the talent of California’s Janiva Magness, Blues Music Award-winner and one of only 2 women to receive the coveted B.B. King Entertainer of the Year Award. This California woman is on fire!
Other notable Bluesfest artists include the “Crown Prince of Chicago Blues” Ronnie Baker Brooks, Oklahoma’s “Watermelon Slim” of whom the San Diego-Union Tribune says,” No one today makes more compelling blues music than Watermelon Slim”, Big James & the Chicago Playboys, California harmonica ace Mark Hummel, New York’s blues diva Dana Fuchs, Australia’s renowned bluesman Harper, and countless others.
